MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore Liv Cheng of the Pepperdine women's golf team has earned a spot on the West Coast Conference's All-Academic first team, the league office announced today.

To be considered, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 grade-point average, be at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and be a significant contributor to the team.

Cheng (Auckland, New Zealand/Macleans College), an economics major, was named a 2011 NGCA Scholar All-American last season, and was also chosen to the All-WCC first team as a freshman. She has played in all eight tournaments in 2011-12 and is third on the team with a 75.96 scoring average. Cheng has posted three top-20 finishes, including a career-best tie for sixth place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

She and the rest of the Waves are headed to the WCC Championships next week (Monday-Wednesday, April 16-18) at the San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif. Pepperdine has won 10 consecutive league crowns.
